I was in Birmingham today for a shopping trip with my best friend Jo Ann. I went into Primark with the intention of just browsing but of course I ended up with a handful of items. I was queuing up to pay for my stuff when this girl went in front to get a roll of wrapping paper. As she was heading back to the queue, she pushed past me. I looked at her when she did that and she then proceeded to tell her mum that I pushed her. Firstly, I did not even touch her, she was the one that pushed me. Secondly, I wasn’t even glaring at her or anything. It’s just like a reflex when someone bumps into you and you sort of turn towards their direction. I did, however, glare when she said told that blatant lie.
BUT WAIT, THERE’S MORE!! She then proceeded to say to me “Don’t look at me with your Chinese eyes”. LIKE WHAT???? SO. RUDE. And racist. Her mother just stayed silent the entire time. This kid can’t have been more than 10 years old. I was actually in shock because I didn’t expect that at all! She is just a kid and she’s already behaving this way. You would think as a of colour herself, her mother would educate their child regarding matters of racism and discrimination. Yes, the kid could’ve picked it up from school or the Internet or somewhere else but the mother stood by her child and did nothing. I was quite annoyed. I didn’t say anything because I wasn’t in the mood to cause a scene. And honestly, it was just a kid and people would probably think I was attacking her or something. Such is life.
The bottom line is that little kids are evil.
I think this just goes to show that racism can come from the people you least expect.
